Thirty-two streets were named in Stapleford.<a id=\"fnref2\" href=\"#fn2\">[2]<\/a> The order was confirmed in 1914.<a id=\"fnref3\" href=\"#fn3\">[3]<\/a> Progress was slow. In September 1919 a street light was erected at The Roach. The electricity company charged \u00a39 for lighting this lamp from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> September until the 31<sup>st<\/sup> March.<a id=\"fnref4\" href=\"#fn4\">[4]<\/a> Even that was converted back to gas in July 1926<a id=\"fnref5\" href=\"#fn5\">[5]<\/a> In 1921 the parish church was waiting to have electricity installed but could not do so until the cable came down Church Street.<a id=\"fnref6\" href=\"#fn6\">[6]<\/a> The first street lights powered by electricity was in May 1932 when 4 lamps were installed in Toton Lane and 2 lamps in Cemetery Road.<a id=\"fnref7\" href=\"#fn7\">[7]<\/a><\/p><p>Even into the 1950s many houses did not have electricity installed. In 1947 the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Electric Power Co. became part of the East Midlands Electricity Board.
