Stapleford Local History Society Archive

Over the years the Stapleford Local History Society has acquired a considerable amount of material that is relevant to the history of Stapleford and that should be retained. It was decided that an attempt should be made to prepare a list of this material and five members of the Society, Barbara Brooke, Nigel Brooks, John Shaw, Keith Goodman and Margaret Watt met on a regular basis over the past two years to carry out this work.

The archives are stored in ring binders and have been coded according to a list prepared by a previous librarian following the Dewey Decimal Classificaton. It was agreed that this sytem should be retained although it was recognised that, in some areas, a single code, e.g. for roads, was inadequate and did not enable the detailed classification that was necessary. However, it was felt that this could be partly overcome by the availablity of digital searching.
