The history of Stapleford
Over the years, the Stapleford Local History Society has accumulated a substantial collection of material relating to the history of Stapleford, which is considered worthy of permanent preservation. It was decided to compile a comprehensive list of this material, and five members of the Society – Barbara Brooke, Nigel Brooks, John Shaw, Keith Goodman and Margaret Watt – met regularly over several years to undertake this task. The archive group continues to meet at regular intervals as new material is added.
The archives are stored in ring binders and have been coded according to a system based on the Dewey Decimal Classificaton, prepared by a previous librarian. It was agreed that this sytem should be retained, although it was acknowledged that in some areas-such as roads- a single code was inadequate to allow the level of detail required. It was felt, however, that this limitation could be partially mitigated through the availabily of digital searching. A simplified method of searching has recently been added. A subject index enables you to narrow down the search area. Find
